Travelling with Sunflowers
Inspiring autistic families to travel the world, believe in themselves & plan everyday adventures with confidence!
Are you dreaming of a family holiday but feel anxious about travelling with your autistic child?
Then you're in the right place. I'm Layla and I'm here to help. To let you know that it's ok to feel scared but want to be brave at the same time.
No-one but you can ever know what's right for your family or the challenges you face on a daily basis. It's ok to start small, to take your time. The spirit and excitement of travel can be experienced in so many different ways - not just in package holidays and city breaks. It's there when we walk through a park at sunset, ride on a new class of train, go storm cloud spotting in autumn or share a picnic in the summer. It's in our own curiosity and wonder, and the special connections we make with each other and the places we explore that we find the real meaning of travel.
Every time we leave the house there is the potential for adventure, and when you have neurodivergent children every one of these adventures counts. Every one of these adventures is important. Every journey, however big or small, is making precious memories for you and your family. It is time spent together, and that is priceless.

OUR STORY:
J and I once believed that our boys' hidden disabilities meant we'd never be able to take them abroad. But with encouragement from the awesome families in our Autism Parents Support Group, and lots of research, planning and thinking outside the box we realised this wasn't true.
Since summer 2022 we've been taking risks, making mistakes, going on adventures and creating incredible family memories both in the UK and Europe. We decided that being different was not going to stop us travelling with the boys. It's been challenging at times - but we don't regret it for a minute!
Travelling with Sunflowers brings together everything we've discovered along the way, we hope it inspires you to go travelling too, and make some amazing memories along the way!
